Mental Health Awareness Week

Practical Sessions: Building Resilience

Different sessions both aimed at building resilience. One a challenging - Slow it down: Yoga for Strength and Stability, the other a softer approach - Turn down the Volume and Relax: How to influence your stress dimmer switch.  

In each session the participants were learning the same biological process - how to shift between an active mode (the sympathetic nervous system) to a calm or balanced state (the parasympathetic nervous system). These sessions a mind - body version of interval training emphasises how to use and enhance our ability to recharge and recover.

Field Team Conference

Wellness Presentation and Practical Sessions: Driving, Posture and Pain

A revised module exploring the hidden costs of poor posture, the physical changes creating pain, stiffness and how to address these and how posture affects mood, performance, self esteem - the facts and how to create change. Driving and incorrect car seat position - the potential for lower/upper back, hip and neck pain problems concluded the session. . 

Two Group Practice sessions focussed on

  • Yoga and self massage to release muscle tension and imbalances created by long periods driving and 

  • Building resilience : how to strengthen our body’s ability to relax faster and recover from life’s difficulties using interventions to move between SNS activation and PNS relaxation response.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK

Practical Sessions: An Introduction to Mindfulness and Yoga.

Two simple ways of using the breath as a mindfulness tool were used to open the sessions followed by a yoga and myofascial release practice with a focus on targeting tensions common in desk workers including lower/ upper back, shoulder and neck issues. A guided relaxation completed the sessions.

Practical Sessions: 5 Ways to Work at Wellness 
5 Ways to Work at Wellness are 5 skills I believe can be used separately or as a whole to help regain a sense of ownership for our own health and wellbeing. 

At this event the 5 skills were approached as practical ways to 

  • address health related issues to standing for long periods at work

  • reinforce the messages & programmes delivered over the previous 3 years 

  • introduce new practices for stress management & insomnia - these topics were as a result of requests by sales staff in a staff survey Wellness WorkSpace carried out after the 2017 event

A 5 Ways to Work at Wellness leaflet was also designed, produced and provided for reference to team member. As a result of several previous requests a recording of the relaxation session was also produced and issued to each team member.

FIELD TEAM

Individual Assessment & Practical sessions: Driving, Posture & Pain 

A change of company fleet of cars triggered a sequence of back pain issues in the Channel Assist field team. The Client Account Director of Channel Assist tasked me to provide a solution which could also address the general issue of health and driving for long periods. My approach and solution:

  • research into the optimal driving seat position 

  • design and presentation of a group practical session focused on releasing muscle tension and imbalances created by long periods driving.

  • an individual assessment of each team member and adjustment of their car seat to find their optimal driving seat position

  • design & production of a leaflet “ Driving Position Tips” which was provided for reference for each of the team member
